IRR

Internal Rate of Return

The discount rate that makes the NPV of all cash flows zero.

Definition

What it actually means.

IRR is the annualized return rate of an investment. Used to compare investment opportunities — higher IRR is better, but should be paired with absolute return size. Common hurdle rates: 15–20% for venture-backed companies, 8–12% for stable cash-flow businesses.
